We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Christopher Gonella, Managing Partner at Quantum Group, to South Bank Colleges, where he spoke with our low-carbon heating apprentices, sharing valuable industry insights and advice on their journey into the renewables sector.

With the UK targeting over 600,000 heat pump installations by 2028—compared to just 42,000 in 2024—Chris highlighted the crucial role our apprentices play in shaping a sustainable future. Drawing from his own experience as an apprentice, he emphasized the importance of practical skills and the wide range of career opportunities in renewables, from heat pump installation to design engineering.

It was inspiring to witness the dedication of our learners, including remarkable stories of perseverance. One apprentice, for instance, secured her job by proactively reaching out on LinkedIn, demonstrating the power of initiative and networking. Additionally, we’re proud to see that 4 out of the 9 apprentices are women, marking a positive step toward greater diversity in the industry.
