The Performing Arts Department at South Bank Colleges recently brought the magic of immersive theatre to life with their innovative production of Scrooge: The Immersive Pantomime. Students across Levels 1, 2, and 3 showcased their talents and creativity by delivering captivating performances to pupils from Glenbrook, St Mary’s, and Kings Avenue Primary Schools.
This exciting project was part of their assessment, designed to challenge students to explore the dynamic world of immersive theatre. Unlike traditional productions, immersive theatre invites the audience to become part of the story. The students embraced this concept wholeheartedly, creating an interactive and engaging experience for their young audiences.
Performing for primary school pupils added a unique dimension to the project. The students tailored their performances to resonate with the children, ensuring the classic tale of Scrooge was both entertaining and accessible. By breaking the fourth wall and inviting audience interaction, the performers brought Charles Dickens’ timeless story to new heights of excitement and relevance.
The immersive format offered the students an opportunity to refine their acting, improvisation, and audience engagement skills, while also learning to adapt to real-time reactions. From the glowing smiles and laughter of their primary school audiences, it was clear the performance left a lasting impression.
The success of Scrooge: The Immersive Pantomime highlights the dedication and talent of our Performing Arts students and staff. It also underscores the college’s commitment to innovative, hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for the evolving world of performing arts.
We’re incredibly proud of our students for their creativity, hard work, and professionalism. Bravo to the cast and crew of Scrooge! This performance not only brought holiday cheer to local primary schools but also demonstrated the power of theatre to inspire and connect communities.
