A Morning of Inspiration and Learning

The fair kicked off with a Welcome & Affirmation Card Pick-Up, setting the tone for the day. Students were invited to select affirmation cards—powerful words of encouragement—to carry with them throughout the event. Opening remarks highlighted the importance of International Women’s Day, celebrating achievements, breaking down barriers, and inspiring change.

Power Panel & "No Filter" Q&A

The first session of the day featured a Power Panel of women in industry, who shared their personal journeys and lessons through "Things I Wish I Knew at 16" stories. This raw and unfiltered conversation gave students a real insight into the challenges and triumphs of navigating careers as women. A QR code-enabled anonymous Q&A allowed attendees to ask questions, fostering an open and honest discussion.

Breaking Stereotypes Debate

Following the panel discussion, students took part in a lively Breaking Stereotypes Debate. Common gender stereotypes were put under the microscope, with students debating against them in mini battles. The session encouraged critical thinking and challenged preconceived notions, reinforcing the importance of equality and representation in all fields.

Speed Mentoring: Meet a Role Model

One of the most impactful activities of the day was the Speed Mentoring session. Students had the chance to meet women professionals from various industries, engaging in 5-7 minute mentorship sessions. These rapid yet meaningful conversations offered valuable advice, career insights, and encouragement to aspiring young women.

Business Pitch Challenge

Next, students put their entrepreneurial skills to the test in the Business Pitch Challenge. In groups, they worked together to develop and pitch a business idea that addresses a problem faced by women. A panel of judges evaluated the ideas, selecting the most innovative and impactful proposal. This challenge not only encouraged creativity but also highlighted the power of female-driven innovation.

Closing Remarks & Empowerment Pledges

To conclude the event, students reflected on the day’s discussions and wrote empowerment pledges on a communal board, completing the sentence: "I will…". This final activity reinforced the importance of personal commitment to gender equality and self-empowerment.

A Lasting Impact

As the event wrapped up, goodie bags were distributed, leaving students with tangible reminders of the day’s powerful messages. The International Women’s Day Fair at South Bank Colleges was more than just a celebration—it was a call to action for students to embrace confidence, challenge stereotypes, and pursue their ambitions without limitations.

Looking Forward

Events like these play a crucial role in shaping a more inclusive and supportive future. South Bank Colleges remains committed to fostering diversity, empowerment, and opportunity for all students. Here’s to continuing the conversation and championing equality—not just on International Women’s Day, but every day.
