One of the most remarkable success stories from our recent BBC visit was that of Kimberley, a South Bank Colleges alumna who successfully transitioned from student to a full-time professional at the BBC.
From Student to Industry Professional
Kimberley began her journey by completing a Level 3 in Creative Media at Lambeth College, where she was mentored by her lecturer, Nigel. His invaluable guidance helped her secure an apprenticeship at the BBC as a Level 4 Technical Operator in Post Production, setting her on the path to an exciting career in media.
Reflecting on her experience, Kimberley shared:
“Nigel was a great teacher! I started by doing a Level 3 in Creative Media at Lambeth College, and he helped me find an apprenticeship opportunity at the BBC in post-production. He encouraged me to go for it, and I was able to get in! Now, I work full-time at the BBC as an Assistant Post Production Editor.”
Her inspiring journey is a testament to the incredible support students receive at South Bank Colleges. Even her mentor, Nigel, had high praise for Kimberley, stating:
“She was a fantastic student.”
BBC Apprenticeships: A Pathway to Success
During a recent session, Kimberley and fellow BBC professional Will provided valuable insights into BBC apprenticeships, including opportunities like the Post Production Level 4 Technical Operator apprenticeship. These programmes offer hands-on experience, industry-recognised qualifications, and a direct route into exciting careers in media.
Kimberley’s success highlights the benefits of apprenticeships and how they can be a stepping stone to a thriving career in the media industry.
With National Apprenticeship Week on the horizon, this session served as an inspiring reminder of the doors that apprenticeships can open. For Creative Media students at South Bank Colleges, Kimberley’s journey demonstrates how education and industry experience can come together to create real career success.
