London South Bank Technical College was honoured to host local Members of Parliament Helen Hayes (MP for Dulwich and West Norwood) and Florence Eshalomi (MP for Vauxhall) during a special visit to South Bank Colleges' Nine Elms campus. The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the college’s innovative approach to technical education and the transformative opportunities it offers to students.

The MPs were given a comprehensive tour of the campus, where they met students and faculty from a range of disciplines, including digital media, robotics, dental technology, plumbing, and green skills. These departments represent the cutting edge of education and training at LSBTC, equipping students with the knowledge and hands-on skills they need to succeed in their chosen industries.

Helen Hayes and Florence Eshalomi engaged directly with students, learning about their projects and ambitions, as well as the real-world applications of the skills they are developing. From innovative robotics demonstrations to discussions on sustainable practices in plumbing and green skills, the visit highlighted the breadth of talent and expertise nurtured at the college.

Wayne Wright, Principal of London South Bank Technical College, commented:

"It was a privilege to welcome Helen Hayes and Florence Eshalomi to our campus. Their interest in the vital role that technical education plays in shaping the workforce of tomorrow is greatly appreciated. Visits like these are a reminder of the importance of investing in skills development and supporting the next generation of industry leaders."

The visit also emphasised LSBTC’s commitment to addressing local and national skills gaps, with particular focus on green technologies and sustainable practices. As industries continue to evolve, the college remains at the forefront, ensuring students are prepared to meet future challenges. While this specific visit was to the technical college, the whole group was represented - including Professor David Phoenix, Vice Chancellor of LSBU, Monica Marongiu, Principal of Lambeth College,  Fiona Morey, SBC's Executive Principal, and SBC's Trustee, Lambeth Cllr Issa Issa.

The support of local MPs is invaluable to the success of technical education initiatives, and their visit served as an inspiring moment for both students and staff alike.
