On the 30th of November and 1st of December, Level 1 IT students set up a food donation point as part of their assignment. students collected donations of canned and dry foods as well as hosting a charity cake sale for Foodbank (seeded by Trussell Trust). Sanitary products were also accepted as part of the donations. The Trussell Trust is a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) and charity that works to end the need for food banks in the United Kingdom. They support a nationwide network of food banks and together provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, and they campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK. The food banks provide compassionate, practical support to people in crisis to tackle the root causes that lock people into poverty and they build people’s resilience so they are less likely to need a food bank in the future. There are over 1,300 food bank centres in the Trussell Trust network. The services provided by food banks may vary from area to area as they react to the needs of their community to provide help and support to local people in crisis. on-perishable, in-date food is donated by the public at a range of places, such as schools, churches, and businesses, as well as supermarket collection points. It is then sorted into emergency food parcels by more than 28,000 volunteers, to be given to people in crisis. Students raised £90.64 and 3 medium sized boxes of food to donate.
