This was a ‘without judgement’ exercise, the aim being to encourage reflection on the part of teachers about how learning works online, as well as to share practice. 20 sessions, taught by members of the Teaching & Learning Team, were available over the week for teachers to visit, with teachers encouraged to pop into lessons, even if just for 10 minutes.

One advantage of learning being delivered online is that lessons can be visited at just the click of a button – so for busy teachers, this week provided an easy way of facilitating a different kind of peer observation compared to pre-Covid times. Teachers were able to visit a range of lessons being taught, including Dental Technology, Electrical Installation and ESOL, and witnessed a range of tools – such as Padlet, Mentimeter, and breakout rooms - being used with students.

Learning how to deliver online to maximise participation and progress has been a steep learning curve for all teachers over the past year, and participants in this process found it both reassuring and useful for developing their own practice. As one teacher commented afterwards, ‘I loved every minute of being an observer in both lessons I attended. This experience provided me with a different insight, and I am really grateful to both teachers who allowed me to join their classes.’
