If you answered yes to any of those questions, and are aged 19 or over, then we have the perfect course to help you achieve your goals.

Our Level 3 Access to HE Diploma in Nursing is a one-year qualification designed to direct you to higher education for a nursing degree. This course is equal to 60 credits equivalent to 3-A-levels qualifications. It will develop your knowledge of health and human science-related industries' theory, principles, and practices. You will study several topics essential to progress to a degree in nursing.

The Department of Health and Social Care announced that funding of at least £5000 will be given to 'all new and continuing degree-level nursing, midwifery and many allied health students from September 2020'.

This course will give you the opportunity to progress onto degree-level courses that benefit from the guaranteed, additional support pledged by the Government.

What experience and skills will you gain?

You develop practical skills you can actually use on the job. You will get an opportunity to attend events, get equipment demonstrations and go on work experience.

For this course, most sessions take place in our well-equipped science laboratories, where you will be able to improve your practical skills using industry-standard equipment and materials under the supervision of experienced subject-specialist teachers. These same specialists will also teach you the theory and principles behind your practical work. In addition to this, you will be required to spend at least 15 hours a week in an independent study.

More than just industry-specific learning, the Level 3 Access to HE Diploma will also teach you educational skills and study tools to further help you prepare for and succeed in analytical and exam situations.

You will develop knowledge and experience in areas that cover:

  • The Role of the Health or Social Care Professional
  • Study skills (15 credits) including Preparation for Higher Education, Finding and Reading Information, Essay Writing, Examination

Skills: Preparing for and Succeeding in an Examination, Note-taking and Note-making

  • Subject Specific Nursing ( 24 credits) including modules such as Becoming a Reflective Practitioner and psychology
  • Human Biology modules (21 credits)
  • Arithmetic Skills for Health Studies

Note: For this course, you will need A-Level books in chemistry and biology, a lab coat, stationary, a scientific calculator, ruler, access to a computer and the internet.

  • What do you need to apply?
    • 4 GCSE qualifications at grades A*-C or 9-4, including English Language and maths and science (biology, chemistry)

    or

    • Level 2 science-based vocational qualification, and Level 2 English and maths qualifications

    and

    • Minimum 2 months of related health sector experience.

    International students: IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each skill) and equivalent overseas qualifications

  • How will you be assessed?

    You will be assessed by a combination of practical assessments, coursework, project work, presentations, and examinations.

    After successfully passing the Level 3 Access to HE Diploma in Health & Human Science, you may wish to consider progressing training with one of the following undergraduate programmes, available at London South Bank University (additional qualifications may be required):
