The purpose of this qualification is to install domestic electric vehicle charger units.
The qualification centres around being able to know the key requirements relating to electric vehicle charging equipment, including types of equipment.
It includes how to design an installation, inspect, test, commission and maintain installations.
This qualification is aimed at practicing electricians interested in understanding how to design and install the range of electric vehicle charging equipment and systems available. It aims to provide expert guidance to learners wishing to gain further knowledge and understanding of electric vehicle charging equipment design and installation.
What experience and skills will you gain?
- Methods of protecting against open PEN conductor faults
- How to assess if an installation has an issue with diverted neutral current
- Smart functions in EVSE and relevant items
- Integration into prosumer’s electrical installations including the option of electric vehicles reverse feeding into the installation and/or supply grid.

What do you need to apply?
You must already hold one of the following:
- Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment)
- Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance)
- Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification
- Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker
- Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification

You will be assessed by on-line multiple-choice test and a practical assignment.
