The Level 1 Access Award in Bookkeeping gives you the opportunity to develop practical bookkeeping skills, while learning what life as a bookkeeper is really like. It will teach you the basics of manual bookkeeping, and give you a solid base of knowledge to take your first steps towards a career in business or finance, upskill for your current role, or advance to further study and progress to additional AAT qualifications.
This course is perfectly suited to those of you who have minimal work experience in this sector, are looking to return to education, or even if you're self-employed and want to learn the accountancy skills to do your own bookkeeping.
The Level 1 Access Award in Bookkeeping is part of AAT's range of Short Qualifications; typically taking two weeks to complete, with two study days per week. These Short Qualifications are flexible, adaptable to your personal needs, and focus on the specific knowledge and skills you will need for a career in bookkeeping. What's more, as they're provided by AAT (the Association of Accounting Technicians), they're highly-valued by employers in a wide-range of industries.
This is a part-time course, with multiple start dates throughout the year, so it can be fitted around your existing home, study, and work commitments.
What experience and skills will you gain?
This course will introduce you to the role of a bookkeeper, and teach you simple bookkeeping techniques. Some of the areas you will study include:
- Understanding the role of the bookkeeper
- Understanding financial transactions
- Processing customer and supplier transactions

What do you need to apply?
An initial assessment and interview will be required for all applicants. You will need Entry Level 3 or above in English and maths.

You will be assessed via an online examination at the end of the course.

Where can this course take you?
This course can lead to employment in a variety of junior or support administrative roles, in both the public and private sectors, including trainee bookkeeper, accounts administrator, billing/payments administrator or coordinator, accounts junior, accounts receivable/payable assistant, procurement and finance assistant, and assistant cashier.
