At South Bank Colleges, part of the LSBU group, our commitment to providing extraordinary opportunities for our students continues to grow. Recently, our Level 2 and Level 3 sports students were given a unique chance to participate in the Team GB Olympic recruitment programme in partnership with London South Bank University (LSBU).
This incredible experience allowed our students to test their athletic abilities in a series of challenges designed to identify potential Olympic talent. From the intense physical tests to touring LSBU’s state-of-the-art sports facilities, the event offered a glimpse into the world of elite sports.
A Day of Athletic Excellence
The day began with the students arriving at LSBU’s campus, where they were warmly welcomed and given a tour of the university’s advanced gym and sports facilities. This was a perfect opportunity for the students to imagine their future academic and athletic pathways, seeing what life at LSBU could offer them.
Next came the main event – the physical testing. The students took part in three key athletic challenges:
- 1km Run – Assessing speed, endurance, and pacing.
- Plank Hold – Testing core strength and mental focus.
- Long Standing Jump – Measuring explosive power and agility.
These tests were part of Team GB’s official recruitment process, aiming to identify students with the potential to join their ranks in pursuit of Olympic dreams.
Uploading Results and Awaiting the Next Step
Once the tests were completed, the students uploaded their results to the official Team GB website, where they now eagerly await news of whether they’ve progressed to the regional testing stage.
The effort, determination, and enthusiasm shown by our Level 2 and Level 3 sports students were nothing short of inspiring. Every participant gave their all, and we are incredibly proud of their commitment to challenging themselves and aiming for success.
Inspiring Futures at LSBU
The day was more than just about physical performance. Touring LSBU’s world-class sports facilities also provided the students with valuable insight into what life could be like if they chose to continue their education at LSBU. The experience highlighted the opportunities available to them in both their academic and athletic careers.
