Creative Media and Digital Journalism students worked together to solve an international humanitarian crisis involving British citizens and foreign nationals. Groups of five were given information on the crisis, involving two countries, and asked to role-play ministerial positions including that of the Prime Minister, Home Secretary, Defence Secretary and International Development and United Nations representatives.
Students worked together in their groups and then role-played attendance at a Press Conference where they presented their ideas on solutions to the crisis and took questions from members of the Press. They were observed throughout the process by the Head of the Faculty and programme leaders who picked out the winners based on their contributions to the role-play and best performances. The winning seven students will attend a Final Celebratory event at the MOD Headquarters in Whitehall in June when they will have an opportunity to recount their experience, along with students from other educational institutions who have benefitted from the MOD Education Outreach programme.
Andy Gillman MBE, from the MOD, added: "It was a real pleasure to return again to Lambeth College especially as the MOD Education Outreach Programme workshops, that I know take widely across the UK, started in the College back in 2002, due to links with the then Principal. Down the years many of the Lambeth College students have taken part in workshops hosted by myself, or have visited Whitehall, and it is always a joy to meet and work with them."
Students tweeted about the event:
